Category: Documentaries

In 1992 viola player Rosemary Nalden founded the Buskaid Music School in Soweto township. Soweto Strings shows Rosemary as a demanding but beloved mentor, inspired by the whole-hearted way that the students have embraced classical music. Following the progress of one concert, this truly uplifting film also reveals the difficult lives of many of the students; how working in an orchestra has given them a sense of community and structure, and in one case, a passport to a better life.
